Update + Empties No. 2 // 2018 Beauty Challenge

Happy Friday, friends! It has been a hot minute since my last update. My 2018 Beauty Challenge is still in full swing and is going quite well! I have used up a ton of products and rediscovered old favorites. I’ve really been enjoying downsizing my makeup and skincare collection.

In the midst of moving house in the U.S., I found so many products tucked away in makeup bags and bathroom drawers. I decluttered A LOT. I basically got rid of things that were expired or not my shade. I also gave some products to my mom and sister that I had barely used. It felt so good.

Now I’m excited to share a a few select products I’ve used up/ tossed out over the past three months.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil This was my second bottle of tea tree oil from The Body Shop. It has easily become one of my holy grail skincare products! I apply this to blemishes with a Q-tip before bed. I love using tea tree oil because it doesn’t contain all the harsh chemicals traditional acne treatments have. I also love how this tea tree oil is already diluted, so there is no need to use a carrier oil. Repurchase? YES.

Lush Breath of Fresh Air Soothing Toner Water I love Lush, and I think they make great products. However, this product was unfortunately a miss for me. I already have a very favorite facial spray from Elemis (I mentioned it in this post) and this Lush one just didn’t match up. It made my skin feel a bit tight, and the mist from the bottle itself was harsh and not as fine as the Elemis one. I like to use my facial spray to refresh my makeup, but this Lush one left big droplets on my skin and ruined my makeup. Repurchase? No, but I do recommend their lip balm!

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara This mascara takes me back to junior high, as it was one of the first mascaras I ever used! I hadn’t purchased it in years, but my mom received it as a free gift and passed it on to me. (Thanks, mom.) After using this again for about a month, I would say that this is a decent mascara. It doesn’t clump, it is easy to use, and you cannot beat the price! I think it is great for those who want a natural look or are new to the mascara world. Repurchase? Maybe.

MaxFactor 2000 Calorie Mascara Yes, another mascara! I recommend tossing out your mascara every 2-3 months for sanitary purposes. This particular mascara was completely new to me. My friend Helen gave this to me for Christmas. It is her very favorite mascara as well as Denmark’s top selling mascara! I LOVE IT. It performs like a luxury mascara and makes the lashes look long and full. It doesn’t clump either. Repurchase? Yes.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum This was such a treat to use. It smells amazing and really left my skin glowing and moisturized. I am a fan of Caudalie and want to try more of their products – especially the French Kiss Tinted Lip Balm! As for the serum, it did work great. However, other serums I have tried work almost if not just as well and are not nearly as expensive. Repurchase? Probably not.

Eminence Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer This was my second jar of the firm skin moisturizer and my third Eminence moisturizer! I love this stuff. I really recommend it to those with aging skin, but I also love to use it myself for preventative purposes. It really hydrates and plumps my skin, giving me the perfect makeup base. I also love that it is made with organic ingredients. Repurchase? Yes.

Additionally, I got rid of some makeup brushes – particularly from Morphe. As you can see, the brush featured in the photo above has glue peeling at the edge of the bristles. Most all of my Morphe brushes have ended up shedding and/ or falling apart! None of my other brushes have ever done this, and I take such good care of them. Has anyone else had this problem?

What products have you used up lately? Would you repurchase them? Let me know in the comments below! Happy weekend!
Madison

Wow! You are doing awesome with this challenge! I am so guilty of not using things up. I have so many old lipsticks that I need to go through and toss. I too love the Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara! That’s definitely a keeper. I wanted to ask you about tea tree oil. I’ve never used it but have heard good things. Does it really work well with blemishes? I like the idea of using something more natural on my breakouts. Would love to hear your thoughts? Happy weekend! ♥

Awe, thanks so much!!! So crazy I never tried the 2000 Calorie mascara before! I love tea tree oil – yes. For me, it truly works. It is important to put it on the blemish first before you apply any other skincare (if I have time!) That way it can penetrate deep into the skin and clear up the breakout. I usually let it dry a few minutes and then pat the rest of my skincare on. 🙂 Hope that helps!
