My mom always loves to tell the story of how when I was just three years old, she would pull my hair up and place a big bow on top. I would run to the closest mirror and then run back to my mom asking her to fix it if the bow wasn’t just right or if my ponytail wasn’t perfectly smooth. (My poor mom!) Although I have relaxed a bit over the years as to how perfect my hair must be, I still love to care for it and style it. I love switching up the color or getting a fresh, new cut. Going to the hair salon is SUCH a treat for me. When I want to spoil myself, my number one salon choice is Gun-Britt.
Gun-Britt Coiffure is a salon in the center of Copenhagen, run by Gun-Britt herself. She has been in the hair industry for over 50 years and even has her own line of hair products! She has won many awards and is often featured in magazines as well as on Danish television. Gun-Britt is also an educator and has an amazing team of stylists working for her. I first visited the salon last winter. I had such an amazing experience that I decided to come again this past week.
The salon is extremely modern and cozy. Everyone is so welcoming! Upon arriving, each guest is seated, given a robe, and offered a drink. They have amazing coffee and smoothies. 🙂
I had not gotten my hair done since the beginning of July (not a good idea!), so I was in desperate need of a trim as well as a color touch-up. I asked for a more natural look, and I wanted to go a tiny bit darker for the autumn season. I also asked for my blonde to be cooler and brighter. If you follow me on Pinterest here, you can see my hair inspiration board filled with photos I showed to my colorist, Frederikke. She painted several highlights and lowlights in. She is so knowledgeable and talked me through the entire process before beginning! I sat under the dryer for some time and then had my hair rinsed and toned to take any brassiness away.
After that, my hair was washed and conditioned. They used American Crew Classic Gray Shampoo and Conditioner to further prevent brassiness and moisturize my hair. Nicolas uses all American Crew products, but I have never tried them myself. I was really impressed! My hair was so soft afterwards. Then, it was time for the cut. Something special they do at Gun-Britt is cut the hair dry. Josefine cut and styled my hair and explained that doing so gives the stylist more control of how much length is cut off. I am currently in the process of growing my hair long again, so all I needed was a little trim along with shaping some of my layers. This was the end result …
I was also really inspired by the 1970’s / French girl inspired bangs trend, so I decided to try it myself. However, I was really nervous! Josefine was so sweet and did it little by little, making sure I was happy with the end result. I love how chic they look!
It really is crazy how much of a difference a haircut can make. My hair feels so much healthier, and I feel so much more confident. Don’t neglect your hair, girls! Even if you are trying to grow it as long as Rapunzel’s, go in for a little trim every now and then. I didn’t realize how bad my hair looked until after it was cut. 🙂
That is all for today! Thank you so much to Frederikke and Josefine at Gun-Britt Coiffure for such an amazing experience. If you live in Denmark and are interested in making an appointment or shopping their products, you can visit the website here. Have a great day!
Madison

And just as lovely, is the memory of your mamma, fixing your hair with a bow! I always love bows, on little girls!
It is funny, that you were so particular about it looking-just-so. But that only means, you enjoyed the look, as much as she did.
And Yes, I did scroll down far enough, to find the place to comment!!! :-))))

Oh my gosh Madison your hair is so, so beautiful! I’m loving the French girl inspired bangs, they suit you so well! I wish I could pull off shorter hair like yours, but I’ve never been brave enough to cut it any shorter haha. Glad I discovered your blog as well – your layout, photography and the way you write keeps me hooked!
