Self-Care During the Holidays + My Christmas GIVEAWAY!

It is truly the most wonderful time of the year, but for many of us, it can also be the busiest time of the year. I am easily stressed (who isn’t?), so it is important for me that I take some time to rest and recharge. Self-care can be different for everyone. For some, it could be reading a book after taking a warm shower. For others, it might be eating a big bowl of macaroni and cheese while watching a Christmas movie. 🙂 I thought I’d share my personal favorite winter self-care practices with you all. It shouldn’t be a surprise that they are all beauty-related. 😉

1. Taking a warm shower with my favorite body wash and scrub

I love using holiday-scented body washes and scrubs! If you’ve never used a body scrub before, I highly recommend this one from Lalicious. It is 100% natural and made with ingredients such as cane sugar, coconut oil, and essential oils. The peppermint smells so refreshing and feels so nice. Using a body scrub helps with dry winter skin and leaves your arms and legs feeling so smooth. I’ve tried quite a few Christmas body washes, but this one from Philosophy might be my favorite! The Gingerbread Man 3-in-one shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath smells so good. It doesn’t have an overly sweet, artificial scent. It is very calming and relaxing to use!

2. Using a hydrating facial cleanser + giving myself a mini facial massage

I had never used an oil-based cleanser before I tried this one from Klairs. This saves my skin during the cold winter months because it doesn’t strip the skin with harsh sulfates! I would definitely recommend a cleansing oil to anyone with dry to normal skin. My favorite thing to do is to massage a pump or two onto my dry face and really take my time removing makeup and impurities. I then use a wet, warm washcloth to remove the cleanser. It feels so good and my skin feels so soft afterward.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

After my face and body are cleansed, I always make sure to hydrate my skin. These three products have been my go-to’s. I have really enjoyed making the switch to more natural products. This Trader Joe’s Body Butter is such a dream. I love rubbing it all over my body when my skin is slightly damp after a shower! I’ve also enjoyed using multi-purpose oils such as this Blushing Agave Oil from Farm House Fresh. I add a few drops of this to my facial moisturizer or body lotion. I also use it alone on my heels and cuticles! It smells wonderful and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. Finally, let me tell you about Egyptian Magic Cream … Wow, oh, wow! This stuff is amazing. I’ve used it every single day for several years. This cream is made from olive oil, bee pollen, honey, and a handful of other natural ingredients. It can be used for almost anything. I love putting it on my dry lips or even all over my face as a moisturizing mask.

4. Taking care of my nails and hair

My sister and I went to a local nail spa for manicures and pedicures. It was so fun and relaxing! I got pink fingernails in honor of my grandma who always had her nails painted pink. We both had our toenails painted red. 🙂 Before work last week, I popped into a local salon for a quick wash and trim. It feels so good to have someone else wash and style your hair. Such a treat!

I’d love to give the gift of a little spa evening to one of my wonderful subscribers! Included is a pair of shea-infused cozy socks from Bath and Body Works, two of my favorite Yankee Candles, a jar of Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Body Butter and a skincare set from Ole Henriksen! I think I am most excited about the Ole Henriksen products because it is a lovely Danish brand of skincare. 🙂 To enter, all you have to do is be a subscriber to my blog. If you aren’t subscribed already, you can do so at the top right corner on desktop view and under the comment section of each post on mobile. That’s it! I will announce the winner on December 26th here at breakfastastmadisons.com. Good luck!

The balsam cedar candles from Yankee Candle are my favorite during the holiday season. My house smells of pine (even though I’ve got an adorable fake tree 🤫). Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
