This particular afternoon was amazing. I had looked forward to tasting wedding cakes for as long as I can remember! We are getting married in Pittsburgh, and our venue referred us to Priory Fine Pastries for our cake. It is the cutest little bakery located a bit outside the city center. Nicolas and I brought a few inspiration photos along in my wedding planner (I’d be lost without it!) and ate a light breakfast so we would be ready to taste alllll the yummy cakes!
We planned our cake tasting a few months before, and the bakery was very accommodating while working around our schedule. Nicolas called a few days in advance to let them know the flavors we were most interested in trying. When we got there, a little table was set up with a binder filled with wedding cake designs and a platter with six different cupcakes, six filling flavors, and two buttercreams!
Nicolas enjoyed himself so much! We had the best time tasting each cake flavor with different filling and buttercream combinations. The woman that worked with us was so helpful and kind. She had plenty of suggestions and helped us come up with a combination that we love and are certain our guests will love, too! She also made sure that our cake decorations will match our winter wedding theme and include some personalized touches.
Before leaving, I mentioned that we might be interested in having some cookies at our reception. We were then given a box of cookies to take home for us and my family to try! They were delicious, and we will be having some in addition to the cake!
Thank you to Priory Fine Pastries for such a fun experience. Nicolas and I cannot wait to see our wedding cake! If you are married, what was your wedding cake flavor? Otherwise, what is your dream wedding cake flavor? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
xx, Madison

How divine! We also used a tiny little bakery and we were so happy we did, I swear you could taste the love they baked with. We had almond cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing. No fondant. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you picked. (After your honeymoon and you’re ready to get back to blogging post-wedding that is, no pressure from me!)
Aweee! That makes me so happy to hear, Madeline! I have a feeling that you would like the cake we picked. 😉 xx
We had a traditional (for the time, 37 years ago) fruit cake with royal icing and saved the top tier for the christening cake of our first born.
WOW, I absolutely love that idea! What a nice tradition. 🙂
Oh, how delightful! My mouth is watering just thinking about those tasty cakes 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you picked and I know your cake will be gorgeous. Such fun and exciting times, my friend!
Hugs to you! Stephanie-The Enchanting Rose

Oh, Juliana! Thank you so much. Your comment just made my evening. You’re the sweetest! xx
I am loving reading all about your upcoming wedding, Madison. We had buttercream and my wedding color was teal. My husbands uncle picked out the cake –yep. It was a surprise. We were so busy that we forgot about the cake. It was a beautiful 3 tier cake.
