An Ode to Gingham (aka The Only Thing I Wore This Summer)

The summer is slowly (and sadly) winding down. I found myself scrolling through my camera roll the other day and could not help but notice that there was one pattern I wore excessively this summer.

Gingham.

I have fallen in love with this classic, easy-going pattern. I may be late to the party, but I really just enjoyed wearing so many gingham pieces this summer! This blog post is a bit different from the rest because all of the photos featured were not perfectly curated for my blog. They are candids, Instagram stories, goofy shots stolen from Nicolas’s phone, and selfies I’ve taken over the course of this blissful summer, and I simply wanted to share them with you all.

Let’s start at the beginning with the first gingham piece I’ve ever purchased – my beloved Old Navy maxi dress (which I recently purchased in other patterns, too!) It is one of the most comfortable dresses I own, and I love how cool and effortless it looks! I wore this dress on the plane back to Denmark, hanging out with family (p.s. how cute is Julia), and even traveling to Paris! It has since become my ‘Summer Travel Dress.’

I also wore gingham in Paris! This American Eagle skort is amazing! (Yes, I said skort.) I wore it again at Bakken on a chilly summer day, too. Look how much of a difference accessories can make! In Paris I wore this with chic all-white sneakers and a blazer. In Denmark I opted for a more casual look with black sneakers and a denim jacket. This is one of the coolest pieces I have because it looks like a skirt from the back but has breezy pant legs underneath. It is currently sold out, but I recommend checking their gingham section as they have the softest, cutest items.

And then came my gingham pants. My mom bought me these at TJ Maxx! These are so comfortable, chic, and give me so many Audrey Hepburn vibes. I wore them both picnicking and partying.

After falling completely in love with my gingham maxi dress, I decided to buy this AMAZING short dress from Old Navy as well. I. Adore. This. Dress. The blue and white pattern is perfect for summertime. This is also the first off the shoulder dress I’ve owned, and I really ended up liking it! It doesn’t require wearing a bra, and it doesn’t fall down. It is also so lightweight – perfect for those hot and sunny afternoons. Mocha just happened to have a matching collar . . . and Nicolas had a similar gingham shirt from Ralph Lauren. Believe it or not, we didn’t coordinate our outfits that day!

In that same Old Navy order I also purchased this off the shoulder romper. It is made of linen so it is a bit heavier but also very soft. This romper looks adorable with sneakers or sandals, making it practical and versatile!

I definitely sound like a shopaholic, but I promise I’m not! I consistently wore these items throughout the entire summer on all different types of occasions. It is going to be so sad to pack them away, but I am already looking forward to wearing these pieces next summer! I’m currently enjoying wearing my gingham dresses to work with a cardigan before the weather becomes entirely too cold. 🙂

So are you obsessed with gingham yet or not? Haha thanks for letting me completely gush over my summer wardrobe! I love finding practical, good quality pieces that I will wear for years to come. Being that the majority of these items come from Old Navy, I want to say how impressed I am with their quality. I didn’t break the bank buying any of these things, but in my opinion they’ve held up great throughout my excessive wear. No worries here! Hope you all have a lovely week. xx

    Hello there, lovely lady! I so enjoyed seeing your gingham pieces and I have to say that I simply love each outfit. The gingham dress and those pants…be still my heart! Too cute 🙂 When I was first learning how to sew I purchased some blue gingham curtains to turn into a dress and you’ll never believe it, but it’s one of my favorite dresses to this day. I guess I have a little “Scarlet O’Hara” in me with the curtains and all {{smiles}}

    I have been wanting to thank you for the oh-so-sweet comment on my blog last week. You certainly know how to bring a smile to this girl’s face. I appreciate your kindness.

    Enjoy these last few days of August, my friend! Hugs! Stephanie-The Enchanting Rose
