The World’s Oldest Amusement Park

Earlier this week, Nicolas and I visited Bakken – The world’s oldest amusement park! It is crazy for me to think that this whimsical place opened its doors hundreds of years ago in 1583 and is still loved and visited by so many to this day.

Entering Bakken is essentially like entering a fairytale. The park is hidden in the center of one of Denmark’s beautiful forests. Horse-drawn carriages circle the area transporting visitors. You are immediately greeted with the sounds of children enjoying the rides and the aroma of some of Denmark’s most traditional food.

My personal favorite food (and one of the main reasons we visited Bakken this day) is the beef sandwich. I know it sounds pretty average, but believe me, it is NOT!

This classic sandwich consists of a very thin beef patty smothered in ketchup and sautéed onions and served on a sesame seed bun. It is so simple yet SO delicious.

Bakken is also home to Rutschebanen (Danish for “The Roller Coaster”). It was the park’s first rollercoaster built all the way back in 1932!

Another section of this charming park that I adore is Nisseskoven which means The Elf Forrest in Danish. Santa visits here every Sunday, June through August, on his summer holiday.

There is even a Christmas tree on display all summer long which I am MORE than okay with!

Here is a top view of my outfit of the day. I kept it simple with cropped leggings from Victoria’s Secret and an oversized striped tee from H&M. Nike flyknits are one of my very favorite styles of sneakers. They are super breathable and comfortable which makes them perfect for summertime (not to mention they are available in a ridiculous variety of colorways). Nicolas and I both have a few pairs.

Bakken is filled with so many restaurants and food stands. You could visit on numerous occasions and have a totally different food experience each time. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy with candles, fresh flowers, and music.

We finished off our day with a delicious vanilla soft ice topped with chocolate sprinkles (my favorite, as you can tell by my ridiculous smile).

And that concludes our day at Bakken! Thanks so much for visiting today and for all your kind comments on my previous post. I am traveling to Spain this week and look forward to sharing it with all of you 🙂

What a cool place to visit! I wonder what kind of attractions they had in 1583? And I’m pretty sure I would not be riding the roller coaster from 1932. Enjoy Spain and I’m looking forward to your photos!

Hi, Beth! I actually did ride the old rollercoaster – it was pretty nerve-wracking, but still fun 🙂 My Spain post is up now!
