Our Magical Wedding Venue // Wedding Update No. 6

I am so thrilled to be sharing this post. Nicolas and I have found our dream wedding venue, and I simply couldn’t wait until the wedding to write about it! In case you didn’t read my last post about our wedding cake, we are getting married in Pittsburgh! It is a beautiful city not too far from where we (and the rest of my family) live, and there is an international airport that makes it easy for Nicolas’s family to fly in.

We began researching places shortly after Nicolas and I got engaged in May. We found some beautiful options in the city, but they were all very big, extravagant, and central. We wanted something intimate and cozy but still elegant. Nicolas stumbled across Mansions on Fifth, and we immediately knew it was the place for us.

Mansions on Fifth is a boutique hotel located on Fifth Avenue in Shadyside in Pittsburgh. It has an amazing history, having been built for Willis F. McCook, a wealthy attorney, in the early 1900’s. The mansion was constructed for his wife Mary and their ten children on what was called Millionaire’s Row. Some years after, McCook built a second mansion adjacent to his home for his daughter. Today the two homes are owned by Priory Hospitality and are famously known as Mansions on Fifth.

Nicolas and I visited the mansions the day we moved back to the states. We flew into Pittsburgh and headed over to meet some of the staff and take a peek at our potential wedding venue. It was even more beautiful in person! Zach, the Hotel Supervisor, gave us a tour of the entire hotel and told us all about its history. He showed us the dining rooms and the guest rooms as well as the wine cellar and honeymoon suite. Each room was perfect, and it wasn’t hard to decide that this was where we wanted to spend our wedding weekend.

We went back to Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely tasting to select our wedding food. My parents came along, and it was a wonderful day! We tried horsย d’oeuvres, salads, and main dishes. It was difficult, but we narrowed it down to our favorites and decided on a menu! We met with Rebecca, Zach, and Mary Ann to finalize some decisions and get a clearer idea of what we need to prepare as the wedding approaches. They are all amazing people and simply wonderful to work with. They made sure our minds were at ease and that we will be ready for our wedding weekend!

Here is a little peek of our centerpieces. I love them. ๐Ÿ™‚

Nicolas and I chose to get married in the beautiful Saint Paul Cathedral. Built in 1906, Saint Paul Cathedral is modeled after the Gothic style of the 14th century. After visiting several cathedrals throughout our travels in Europe, we found Saint Paul to be so fitting as it reminded us of our travels in Italy and Spain! The cathedral is also only a short walk or five-minute drive from Mansions on Fifth.

A special thank you to my parents for making this wedding planning process so special. We couldn’t do it without them!

I cannot believe how quickly the wedding is approaching. Words cannot describe how excited I am! Thanks for stopping by Breakfast at Madison’s, and have a lovely day.

xx, Madison
