Healthy Homemade Applesauce // Only 4 Ingredients & Perfect for Thanksgiving!

Ohh, this recipe! I am so happy to share it with you all. Homemade applesauce is one of my favorite fall treats, and after enjoying it at a local restaurant, I decided to try to make some myself. I simply used what I had on hand. I wanted to keep it healthy and simple. I think this would be perfect to have cooking in the crockpot on Thanksgiving day.  This was also a great way to meal-prep breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy store-bought applesauce again!

Ingredients:

  • 10 apples
  • juice of half a lemon
  • cinnamon
  • brown sugar to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice your apples. Spray your crockpot with cooking spray and lay apple slices in bottom.
  2. Squeeze lemon juice all over apples.
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar to taste. (This all depends on what type of apples you use. The sweeter the apple, the less brown sugar you’ll need. I used around 3 tablespoons.)
  4. Place lid on crockpot and cook on low for 5-7 hours. Stir occasionally.
  5. Once apples are completely cooked down, turn crockpot off, and take a whisk or fork to further mash them.
  6. Serve warm or let cool and place in fridge in an airtight container.

Notes:

  • If you do not have a crockpot, you can also make homemade applesauce on the stove. Just be sure to add a little water to the pot so the apples don’t stick to the bottom. The apples may cook faster, so watch your pot!
  • I prefer a chunkier applesauce, but if you like a smoother texture, use an immersion blender after cooking.
  • You can eat this applesauce so many different ways! I ate mine warm, cold, and even on top of oatmeal.

I hope you enjoyed this short and sweet recipe! Let me know if you try it. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope it is a wonderful day spent with family, friends, and good food!
