Finding My Dream Wedding Gown // Wedding Update No. 4

Ecstatic is the only word I can use to describe how I feel about writing this post. I dreamed of finding the perfect wedding gown my entire life. I would watch Disney movie upon Disney movie in awe of how beautiful all of the princesses’ wedding dresses were. As I got older, I watched Say Yes to the Dress and Four Weddings all the time (and still do hehe. 🙂 ) I can’t believe that I found the one. It still feels so surreal!

(Nicolas if you are still silly enough to be reading this post, please click off now. xx)

I am going to be completely honest in this post, as I want to remember every little bit of wedding planning! Despite the fact that I was so excited to find my wedding gown, I was tentative to start. I struggled, going back and forth, afraid that I would make the wrong decision or hurridly decide and then end up regretting it later. I am also incredibly sentimental and simply didn’t want the process to be over. Around six months before the wedding, my mom gently encouraged me to begin looking. We searched online for different ideas, and I added several dresses to my Pinterest board for inspiration. I had a pretty clear idea in my head of what I wanted my dress to look like.

On our way home from Canada, I peeked into a beautiful bridal boutique by myself. Seeing wedding gowns in person got me incredibly excited, and even though I didn’t try anything on, it gave me the push I needed to get started.

Less than a week after coming home, I booked appointments to try on dresses. I spent more time looking at gowns from bridal boutiques and saving ideas. The afternoon came, and my mom, two sisters, and I headed out (with my wedding planner full of inspiration in hand.) I was instructed to pick out three to four dresses in various colors and styles to try on. It was so fun walking out of the dressing room to show my family each dress! It was like a little fashion show, much like they do on Say Yes to the Dress. I ended up trying on five or six gowns. Every one of them was beautiful, but I didn’t get that ‘click’ feeling like everyone always talks about! I couldn’t even decide which one was my favorite out of the six gowns I tried on! My mom took photos of me in every dress, and we decided to head home to have a think on it. I have to admit that I was feeling a bit nervous and discouraged, but that was easily fixed with a chocolate chip cookie and lemonade from Wendy’s! I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe I was overthinking it. Was it possible that not everyone has that special feeling when they find their wedding dress?

The following day we all headed to the second appointment. All of us girls went through the store’s displays and picked out five gorgeous gowns. Since I had narrowed down the style that suited me best the day before, picking out dresses to try on was much easier. My mom selected a gown that stood out from the bunch and looked very similar to a gown I had seen and really liked before. I decided to try that one on first, even though it wasn’t what I had initially pictured myself wearing. When I walked out to show my family, my mom began tearing up, and to my surprise, so did I! This dress felt completely different from all the other dresses. I loved how I looked in it, and it just felt right. Being that it was only the first gown I tried on that day, I thought it might be a good idea to try on the other dresses just to be sure. None of them compared, so I put the first gown back on, this time with a veil. It was perfect! My mom and sisters said my smile was simply just so big while trying that special dress on. Due to the fact that I am a very indecisive person but felt so in love with this dress, I knew it was the one for me.

I said YES to the DRESS.

It was so special and intimate with my mom and sisters there helping me. It was an experience I will never forget! My first fitting is coming up, and I can’t wait to put the dress on again! Disclaimer: none of these dresses is my wedding gown. I’d love to share it with you all, but I simply can’t! 😉

Now it is exactly four months until the big day. Time is moving quickly! To those of you who are married, what was it like finding your wedding dress? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments below! Have a great day. xx

I am sure your dress is beautiful!! I am so glad you had that magical moment when you just knew. I did too. Such a wonderful feeling isn’t it? Mine was the FIRST dress I tried on. For real. And then I had to try on like 4 more because even though my mom agreed she thought I should probably try on a few more to make sure. But it was the perfect dress. And I still look at pictures and love it so clearly it worked out!

Yes, it definitely is a special feeling!!! I am so glad you got to experience it, too. 🙂 Looking back on photos from your big day must be the best!

Mine was the first dress that I tried on, I tried on about twenty and then went back for the first dress. The joy that I had with my daughters helping them is one that I will never forget. I am thrilled your family were able to be with you.

Awe, wow! 2o dresses but you went back to the first one – that is special! My mom said the same thing – I am so glad she was there with me, along with my sisters. 🙂

I love all the ones you didn’t choose so I can’t wait to see which one you picked! I love Say Yes To The Dress and am very excited to go dress shopping one day with my daughter. I got my dress at a small boutique near where we live and got a mini version of it at the exact same place for my daughter’s first communion.

I was secretly hoping that you guys were going to go to Kleinfeld to shop and that your sweet family would be on Say Yes To The Dress!

Haha awe thank you! I am very excited to share it with you all! Say Yes to the Dress is the best show. I LOVE small bridal boutiques, and how cool that your daughter got a small version of your dress!
I would’ve loved to go to NYC, but it was a bit too far from here. 😉

Wedding dress shopping is such a special thing! I remember it being just me and my mom. It was perfect! I ended up getting the first dress I put on. It was perfect!

Ahh, yes! So special. How perfect that your dress was the first one you tried on. 🙂

You are going to be such a beautiful Bride! I was the opposite of you, I hate my body so I was dreading the whole trying on dresses in front of people process. I knew what I wanted going in: princess style ballgown with sleeves. That definitely helped. I went to one store with my mom and one sis in law. The amount of princess dresses they had with sleeves weren’t many. I tried on three dresses total. The first one I tried on I knew it was the one for me. I just loved everything about it and got “that feeling” The second dress was also nice, I didn’t love it as much as the first though. The third dress I knew would be a no but my mom wanted to see me in it so I humored her.

THANK YOU, FRIEND!!! Dresses with sleeves seem to be hard to come by. Everyone wants strapless! Your wedding gown was PERFECT. You looked like a true princess. 🙂

I am so excited for you! I tried on four dresses, all different styles. The first three I liked but once I put the fourth on I knew that was “the one”. I decided to look no further and take it. I’m very indecisive too and I didn’t want to confuse myself. I went with my heart and I never regretted it! I’m so happy you found your perfect dress! I’m can’t wait to see it!!! Four months will come in a blink! : )

Yes, being indecisive certainly can making shopping hard at times! I am so happy to hear that you did the same thing as me – went with your heart! 🙂 Thank you!!! Time is moving so quickly – I can’t believe it!

Ooooh, how exciting, my friend! You look simply beautiful in the dresses you shared with us and I have an idea the dress you chose is truly amazing, just like you.

I fondly remember the day I tried on dresses with my mom and sister…I found “my dress” on the first day. I tried on several, but the second I stepped into “the one” I just knew… 🙂

Hugs to you! Stephanie-The Enchanting Rose

This is what I imagine to be such an amazing experience. I wasn’t traditional at all when it came to finding my dress and would have loved to try on tons and tons of gorgeous dresses. I can’t wait to see the dress you picked I can assume it’s going to be as beautiful as you are.

Hi, Juliana! It was fun trying on lots of different dresses, but it did make the process more difficult! Thank you soooo much. You are so sweet. <3

I had a clear idea of what I wanted – strapless, sweetheart neckline, full skirt but ballerina length, very 50s. I tried on a pink prom dress that was similar and asked the seamstress to make me the same in white taffeta. I only tried on one dress but I think with having such a strong idea of what I wanted, it was a bit easier for me.

Oh, Rosie, I would LOVE to see a photo of your dress! It sounds like something I’d like – I adore vintage-looking dresses. xx
