Christmas 2020

This post is long overdue! Please know that I am writing this mostly for myself. I love looking back at my older blog posts to reminisce and remember special events and moments. So here is a little recap of how we spent our Christmas in Pennsylvania. Some of these photos are from my phone and others are film I had developed. 🙂

This Christmas was a Christmas of firsts …

It was our first Christmas in our new home as well as Draper’s first Christmas.

We truly enjoyed every moment of the Christmas season. Nicolas got me a record player for my birthday, and I cannot tell you how much I loved listening to old Christmas albums every night. We also watched the Danish Christmas special every evening with tea and snacks. It is one of my favorite traditions.

This was also my first time decorating a house for the Christmas season which was a task I had been waiting my whole life to do!

Nicolas and I hosted Christmas Eve (with immediate family only) for the very first time! It was a wonderful, magical evening. We decided to make it a true Juleaften complete with our favorite Danish Christmas foods and traditions. Flynn and I made the candles for the centerpiece, and I was so excited to use our Royal Copenhagen Christmas china we received as wedding gifts for the first time.

Nicolas truly amazed me as we were baking and cooking the entire Christmas Eve day. He kept me on task and was so organized! Together we made a duck, a ham, red cabbage, caramelized potatoes, mashed potatoes, Waldorf salad, frikadeller (Danish meatballs), and risalamande. My sister made green bean casserole, and my mom brought a beautiful Christmas cake from O&H Danish Bakery!

We played games, exchanged gifts, and danced around the Christmas tree. It was so much fun!

Christmas day consisted of a beautiful brunch, presents, naps, and family time at my mom and dad’s.

This was also the first Christmas we weren’t able to celebrate with my grandma due to the virus. She is in an assisted living facility and is unable to leave. It was so difficult, and I know so many others also dealt with this. However, my grandma is the most positive person I know. She still had a nice, cozy, and safe Christmas. I am so grateful to be able to keep in touch with her over the phone and on video chats.

Putting Christmas away is always the saddest task …  but seeing all my decorations together on the kitchen table reminded me of so many wonderful holiday memories. It also made me excited for next Christmas. 😉

I have so many things to thank my mom for – one of the greatest being my love for Christmas. This time of year has always been and will continue to be so magical because of her. When I think of Christmas, I think of my mom.

Wishing you a safe, healthy, and happy 2021. Take care!

xx, Madison

    My dearest Madison,
I will try to type this despite the tears forming in my eyes! This is a beautiful post and one that makes my mother’s heart so very happy. Christmas Eve at your and Nicolas’ home was magical! I enjoyed every single moment, and I know everyone in our family did as well. Thank you for hosting, for your joy, your love of Christmas, and for growing from that precious little girl with flowing curls and a big bow in her hair to a beautiful, confident, amazing young woman. It is hard seeing your children grow, but as Grandma always reminds me, “That is their job”. I love you, am proud of you, and am looking forward to many more Christmas memories with you!
